Stroud Keep Division-Winning Hopes Alive

With Ecotricity-sponsored Stroud on the top of the division and Bourton in second place, this was an important match for the Stroud team on a mission to earn promotion.
The first 10 minutes caused Stroud’s supporters some anxiety but the ladies soon settled into their game and the scoring was opened by Hannah Scott from open play.  Claire Crosthwaite made it 2-0 at half time with a skilful strike from close to the goal line.  Bourton earned a string of short corners in the first half but were denied a goal by Stroud’s rock solid defensive line of Katherine Stevens, Sian Freer, Steph Woodward and keeper Ali Breddy.
In the second half it was Stroud who had the opportunity to test their well-practised short corner routine and they did not disappoint.  Kathy Williams scored from the first, powering a goal home from the edge of the D.  On the second opportunity, Williams passed to Victoria Sharpe who struck the ball cleanly into the net. Even at 4-0 down, Bourton were far from beaten and took full advantage of a mistake by Stroud to make it 4-1.  Stroud continued to work hard, dominating the final quarter of the game.  Hard work by the midfield and forward line gave Nic Kelly-Davies the chance to score from a strong Jade Rigglesford pass, followed soon after by another from Kelly-Davies to end the match 6-1
