Stroud Ladies 2nd XI keep another clean sheet

Bourton 2nds have been hot on the heels of Stroud in the division table, making this an exciting and important encounter. Stroud expected a battle but looked confident and dominant throughout. They found space, moved the ball well and demonstrated the great team work which has earned them their place at the top of the division so far this season.
Claire Crosthwaite opened the scoring, finding the goal from open play. A second goal before half time was set up by Carrie Sanders and finished by a well positioned Candice Johnson. In the second half Stroud continued to dominate. This led to several short corners which, to Stroud’s frustration, Bourton defended well.  Eventually the pieces fell into place and Johnson scored again, connecting with a beautiful strike from Kathy Williams to make it 3-0.
On the few occasions the boisterous Bourton team did manage to break through Stroud’s very strong midfield, the defence once again performed very well, and Jordan Turnbull made some good, confident saves. An enjoyable match, helped by strong, fair umpiring.
