For the very first time in its history Stroud Hockey Club fielded a 3rd ladies team registered in the West Clubs Women's Hockey League.  A new team with a mixture of experienced, young and returning players walked onto the pitch and worked hard at becoming a cohesive unit, a dynamic group and a united team.  Thornbury scored both their goals in the first half and Stroud's goal too was early in the match. The mid-fielders Mandi Lewis and Sian Freer controlled the ball well in the centre of the pitch.  Stroud's young forwards Lydia Wakefield and Sophie Wathen, able supported by Marcella Whelan and Pip Rob provided space for Teigan Hurlock to sweep the ball into the net from the centre half position.  From half time the Stroud team really began to connect well, knew where their team mates were likely to be and the passing improved markedly.  Despite incredible and almost relentless pressure from Thornbury some fabulous saves from keeper Sara Price, determined defending from Di Furlong, Jules LeBihan, Izzy Hawkins and Pauline Edgington meant that the team retained a clean slate for the 2nd half.  A great start for this burgeoning side.
