Stroud's eventual control of the mid-field, with a rotation of 4 players filling the 'half' roles meant that the Chipping Campden attack found it much harder to break through during the second half of the game.  Conceding goals from some extremely well practised short corner routines during the first half of the match, Stroud found it difficult to surge forward from the halfway line.  United in its determination to grasp the game, the team came out in the second half with some strong passing, good ball possession and some fine runs from the forwards earning them a corner from which Victoria Sharpe scored for Stroud.  Charlotte Bullock and Katie Elder, in their first league games were excellent at the left back position and their marking was commendable.  Ellie Mapletoft and Claire Crosthwaite were rock solid in defence and, having lost the first half 4 goals to 0, Stroud drew the second half 1 - 1 against this strong, top of the league, side.

L2 had Badgers under their Control

16 November 2015 at 13:12

Stroud Ladies 2nd X1 were up to the challenge of this match against the higher placed Brockworth Badgers team. Badgers scored mid way through the first half from a well worked short corner. The Stroud goal was from open play, up the right hand side of the pitch with Harriet Smith, whom the captain asked to position herself near the post, knocking the ball into the net. This was an extremely competitive match with everyone playing at the top of their ability. Ellie Mapletoft and Iona Strang, as the sweeper and centre back respectively, cut out much of the Badgers central attack. The work between the defence, mid-fielders and forwards was startling in its fluidity. Jordan Turnbull, Candice Johnson, Hannah Scott and Freya Robb working well on the right, with Pauline Edgington, Sian Freer, Kathy Williams, Victoria Sharpe and Debbie Ratcliffe moving the ball up the left hand side of the pitch. The save of the day was from Stroud keeper, Aleasha Holder, who pushed the ball over the bar with her stick to deny Badgers a winning goal.
The Stroud team was itself unlucky not to score from a short corner in the final 2 minutes of the game.
A fabulous, high level performance from a team tha looked in control of the ball throughout the game. The passing square, back and up the line meant the Stroud team held the ball for the majority of the game to achieve a thouroughly deserved draw.

L2 in Winning Form

16 November 2015 at 13:04

Stroud were determined to gain those all important points this week and worked hard to beat Bourton 2 goals to 1. Stroud's first goal came just before half time with a super pass from Ellie Mapletoft up the right wing to Kathy Williams, on to Debbie Ratcliffe who neatly passed it to Claire Crosthwaite in a good position on the penalty spot. Stroud's second goal was a solo run from Iona Strang who put the ball into the net from an almost impossible position on the base line. Bourton's most impressive player managed to elude her Stroud marker for just a moment and went on to score for her side. It was not enough to take the victory away from Stroud whose attack was very much on its mettle for the whole match. With a constantly rotating team of players and of positions the Stroud team had to be alert to changes through the match and it coped admirably. The passing was accurate, the marking excellent and the attack determined. The play was not as wide as the team usually operates in part as the halves and backs were pulled into the centre of the pitch to mark their Bourton opponents.

The new ladies 3rd team continues to impress with some excellent passing, movement and attack in this match against Hartpury.  The score belies Stroud's command of the game with some fabulous, text book passing between Katie Elder, Freya Robb and Elly Freer.  Sweeper Charlotte Bullock was always alert to attack by Hartpury and the timing of the tackles by Lettie Adams were perfect.  The goal was a well worked movement of passing up the pitch and the ball was nicely slotted into the goal by Sophie Powell.  Hartpury's goals came from a well worked short corner and misundersatnding about which team had been awarded a free hit.

M3 back to winning ways

01 November 2015 at 21:14

After losing the unbeaten streak last week away at Wotton, Stroud Mens 3s battled hard against a physical Winchcombe side to win 7-0. A well fought game with some good movement of the ball from Stroud in the middle of the pitch and some well worked team goals and great individual finishes.

4 goals from courageous captain Chris Bargh, 2 from tenacious Tim Norman and another from audacious Andy Reader put the final result beyond a doubt. Dispite a very physical game, marred by an opposition red card for unsuitible language and some minor injuries, Stroud should be proud of a good result and three more points in the bag.

If Stroud can keep up the ball pace, team work and clinical finishing displayed this week they will be looking to pick up more points, a fight for second place in the league beckons next week away at Lansdown.
