Good Shape and Effort Rewarded

Stroud M2 hosted a potentially tough match with Lydney A on Saturday and came away with a thoroughly deserved 3 points.  Their commitment and fine team shape stood them in good stead for the entire game and they were relieved to take an relatively early lead to settle the nerves.  Captain Rob Fynn ushered the defence and midfield with calm confidence and Stroud looked firmly in command of the game throughout.  Steve Shipp excelled in his forward-centric midfield role and scored Stroud’s third goal with a cracking strike.  Lydney pulled one back late in the second half, but were never really in danger of letting things slip.  This was an excellent team performance, but mention should be made of the youngsters, Ed Golding, Jed Stening, Hamish Norman and goalkeeper Bryn Nicol, all of whom had fine games.  Nice to see the M2 holding their own in the division, lying 5th but the points are very close and a win next week could see them moving up as Christmas approaches.
