A Goal Difference of 61 sees Stroud TOP the Division

Saturday’s win having extended Stroud’s lead at the top of the division table, the ladies needed victory at Bourton-on-the-Water on Sunday to guarantee them the top spot for the season, with 2 matches in hand.
It wasn’t long before Hannah Scott opened the scoring.  Goals came thick and fast in this eventful game, which ended 9-3.  Nic Kelly-Davies scored a hat trick and Claire Crosthwaite scored 4 goals, the 9th goal coming from Victoria Sharpe from a short corner.  Tension continued throughout the match, culminating in an exasperated Stroud player being sent off for a short period in the second half.  Stroud fell back on the things that have served them so well all season; accurate, short passes … retaining width and position … working together.
While Stroud dominated, Bourton’s young and rapid team played some good attacking hockey, making the most of any opportunities and scoring 3 goals in the second half, 2 from open play and 1 from a short corner.
This victory puts Stroud Ladies 2nd XI safely clear at the top of the table, not having been beaten in the League all season – a great achievement and a fitting reward for a team who have worked relentlessly to develop their skills, tactics and spirit over the last few years.
