Cloud 9 for Stroud ladies 2nd XI

30 September 2012 at 14:32

Stroud ladies 2X1 started as they mean to go on with a resounding 9-0 win over Colwell & Malvern in their first league match of the season.

They dominated throughout thanks to a strong, consistent performance, good skills and great teamwork. They held formation, passed with strength and accuracy, and communicated well.

The first 2 goals came from strong strikes during open play, from Claire Crosthwaite and Hannah Scott.  As if that wasn’t enough to celebrate, the 3rd goal in the first half came from the new penalty corner routine, beautifully delivered by Kathy Williams.

Second half goals came thick and fast; from Carrie Sanders, Claire Crotheswaite and 2 each for Victoria Sharpe and Nic Kelly-Davies.  Katherine Stevens put in a noteworthy performance, moving into midfield in the second half, and Steph Woodward helped the defence maintain a clean sheet for Stroud in her debut with the team.

With great team spirit and good performances right across the field, it was a well-deserved victory.

Another good victory with Stroud dominating throughout with some fine attacking hockey.  Jasmine Gardiner, playing in goal for the first time, was able to make her mark with a good save from a penalty corner in the first half. This was also a good first match for newcomers, Judith Cave and Libby Brown. Claire Crosthwaite set the theme with an early goal which was followed shortly afterwards by one from Candice Johnson. Stroud’s third first half goal came from a perfect Pauline Edgington pass, finished by Nic Kelly-Davies. Wotton came out fighting in the second half, but Stroud’s dominance never really looked in doubt. Despite a somewhat scrappy match, Stroud held their shape and delivered another 5 goals … one from Victoria Sharpe, another from Claire Crosthwaite and a further three from Nic Kelly-Davies were all the results of a strong attacking efforts by the whole team.

Ladies 2nd team get the better of Bassett

08 September 2012 at 17:25

Stroud ladies 2nd X1 hockey team started the season with determination and  showed some excellent ball skills with a 3-0 over Wotton Bassett.

Stroud had much of the pressure and had a run of shots on goal which resulted in a number of short  corners.  The team has a new short corner routine, unpractised until the match and the corners will undoubtedly become slicker with  practise.   All 3 goals came from open play.  Nic Kelly-Davies got Stroud off the mark and went on to score a second, and Hannah Scott ensured a comfortable winning margin with the third.  There was some great passing from Katherine Stevens on the right and Kathy Williams on the left which beat the Wotton Bassett defence and allowed the Stroud attackers to surge forward.  The Stroud defence held firm and ‘emergency keeper’ Becky Stevens made some important saves to ensure the Stroud side maintained a well deserved clean sheet.
