Clean sheet for Christmas

Stroud Men's 1st XI signed off for the Christmas break with a win and clean sheet on Saturday.

Recently promoted Chippenham were the visitors to Stratford Park.  The game was closely fought throughout and Danny Clifford's 1st half goal proved enough to secure the 3 points for Stroud.

Both sides tried to play good passing hockey, but Stroud slightly edged the first half in terms of chances created.  It was from their first short corner that Clifford struck, collecting the rebound from the keeper’s first save before creating space with a mazy dribble and flicking the ball goalward.

Chippenham raised their game in the second half and put Stroud under more pressure, creating a number of chances but failing to find that finishing touch.  On the one occasion they did find the net, the goal was disallowed.  Stroud held firm, keeper Cathie pulling off several crucial saves and man of the match Nick Batten making some crucial tackles as well as relieving pressure with some marauding runs further up the pitch.

Stroud created more chances of their own but couldn't find their way around the Chippenham keeper who saved numerous attempts on goal.

The game finished 1-0 to Stroud.

This was a solid first half of the season with more games won than lost, but plenty to work on and improve for the New Year.
