Another Lacklustre Performance from Stroud M2

Stroud Men’s 2nd XI, sponsored by Ecotricity, were decidedly ordinary on Saturday, a solitary Tim Norman strike half way up the side netting almost the only thing about which to smile.  This came in the second half, all of Stroud’s first half pressure having come to nought.  The opposition described their defensive efforts in terms of Rourke’s Drift, Stroud failing to play enough of a passing game to prise apart the Cirencester defence.  To be fair to the visitors, they stuck to their task and held firm, but their young forwards were given too much leeway in the second half and Stroud paid the price fr not taking chances.  Tom Sharpe and Derek Pittaway came agonisingly close to pulling off a win, but that did not happen and, worse still, goalkeeper Dave Cruickshank suffered a dislocated shoulder which will keep him out for several weeks.  This was certainly an inauspicious end to the first half of the League season, despite Stroud remaining first or second in the table.  The club deserve better; the fans deserves better and, by jove, the team WILL get better for the New Year !
